Upcoming comedian Felix Omondi showcasing his talent for international market

KENYA Felix Omondi , an upcoming international stand up comedian decided to venture into comedy when he discovered his ability to make people laugh. He says ,"When  I used to have normal conversions with people, they were always  laughing  at everything that I was saying and they kept saying, you should try comedy".

The  24- year- old didn't take interest in comedy at that time, but later on, he realized that he is good at making people laugh , he decided to try it out. Omondi is passionate about comedy , he finds joy and fulfillment from making people laugh.

Although he graduated from Moi University  with a BA in Political Science and Public Administration, he is currently a full time comedian. Felix Omondi says that if you want to do something , you should have interest in it . When he begun his journey in comedy, he was not getting paid. He used to go to events to perform his stand-up jokes for free. Sometimes when he cracked his jokes people were not laughing.
" I did my best to make people laugh but it was not working , So I kept asking myself  if  I was meant to be a comedian". He said. But  he kept on  going back to stand- ups even though people were just staring. He perfected his skills and learned from from other people. He also had faith in God .
He added that before he goes on stage he is usually anxious on whether the audience will laugh or not.The best way to calm his nerves is usually done by jumping and dancing backstage to get rid of the anxiety.
Some people are funny naturally, but comedy is all about learning from comedians who have more experience. Stand up comedians practice a lot too , even after failing they go back to stage and they try new jokes
.He says, that he has never had any training on how to be a comedian , being funny comes naturally to him but he still has to nurture it , "you have to practice even  if you are talented".
Omondi also reminisces on how he gets inspired.
Sometimes when  he walks down  the streets, he remembers something funny , or when he sees someone with a funny walking style, he writes it down, so that he does not  forget it. He adds, "When I think of a joke that is funny and  it makes me laugh , I write it  down and I build up on it".

He is also inspired  by his favourite comedians who have become successful from entertaining people. Every person that he comes across and he relates with also inspire him.

When he is in his element , he starts with this joke,  look at your neighbor,  and if they are dark , tell them let their be light , If they are thin tell them dry bones shall rise again and if they are fat tell them occupy till I come. Those are the jokes that he opens with, people laugh hysterically and then he builds up from there.

Being a  comedian has given him the opportunity to travel to  Dubai, Uganda , Tanzania  and he also has plans to  travel to the United states of America and United Kingdom this year. His experience with working with an international audience has been overwhelming with a lot of support from Kenyans who are in the diaspora .
Omondi said , " I want to do a different type of comedy , that everyone can relate with , not just the Kenyan audience but for the whole world, I  want to do universal jokes in English for everyone"
He has also  done stand-ups in the local  scene for Kenya Corner, Jalango with the money ,  KBC comedy  arena  and local events. This year  he is focused on fresh jokes , more television appearances and a lot of international shows.
They say a good laugh is sunshine in the house, but it takes a lot of thought to find that one joke that will bring laughter to an audience who are eagerly waiting  for the comedian to  entertain them.Comedy is all about connecting with the audience. All comedians are funny , there is no comedian that is funnier than the other one but when a comedian  has more experience and the audience is familiar with  their stage personality  they laugh even before the comedian utters a word.
