South Sudanese people are hoping as this month comes to an end, peace will still be on the agenda for 2018.
Member of Federal Democratic Party of South Sudan Rebel Forces, and Secretary of Information , Mr. Changkuoth Bichiok Reth says that the peace revitalization process which will be held in adis ababa aims for national dialogue in the country.
"I think South Sudan really needs peace, the leaders should really focus on working on how we can bring back peace. I wish that 2018 will be a year of peace for the country".He said.
The second phase of the
High-Level Revitalization Forum by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will take place in the
first week of February 2018.
The first phase of the High Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) also held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 18 - 22 December, 2017 called for violators of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement to be held accountable
IGAD also called on the parties to participate in the Forum in good faith and
with a view to reaching a compromise and bringing South Sudan back to the path of sustainable peace.
Reth also said that South Sudan is not ready for elections because many people have fled the country.
"You cannot do elections when half of the population is not in the country, but I think with time especially with the high level revitalization that is taking place in addis , peace will be the only thing that can open the way for election".
Reth who took part in the first revitalisation forum , said the government and opposition both want peace and everyone is ready for it.
He said the leaders should put the country and the suffering people first and not their own interest.
So hopefully if people put the country first and the people, I think we can achieve peace.I have seen most of the people who were there during our first meeting on the revitalization for the opening it seemed that everyone is really ready for peace".
He added that everyone wants the guns to be silenced and for people to go for the talks to be held.
"South Sudan especially the leaders, including myself need to put the country first and our people are really suffering we see them in their in the idps camp in the country. People are also suffering outside the country in the refugee camps.
There has been reports of rebel attacks of unknown gunmen, leading to the international community warning South Sudan to have national talks to prevent genocide.
The AU, IGAD and UN called upon the TGoNU, and all South Sudanese parties to focus on the higher goal of the national interest, and securing the future of South Sudan.
