Social media contributes to the success of an online business start up.

Zia Jepkemei Bett during a fashion shoot
KENYA - Zia Jepkemei Bett  is an ambitious young woman  who started her clothing line  through the help of social media. Zia collections Kenya was created when two sisters used their creativity to reach out to a younger audience.
Zia collections was established  in 2013, when Zia and her sister discovered that they can purchase and ship in clothes from Australia  and then  put them up for sell in Nairobi.

“I realized that clothes in Australia are affordable, so I saw this as an opportunity to sell clothes here in Kenya”. She said.
Zia  used social media to get the attention of young people on Facebook and Instagram. She posted pictures of the clothes online and the feedback was positive.

The clothes which are up-to-the-minute are for young women , 18 -35. Zia’s aim was to attract the youth with unique and affordable clothes.
The online business was challenging in the beginning because some customers wanted to try out the clothes before they bought them.

According to Zia  it was also difficult for two people to manage the business because of other commitments such as being a student.
But despite the challenges the business has grown a lot. She said that running Zia collections has made her put to God first in her business. She also keeps an account of every transaction.

The clothing line has now expanded, she currently owns a store that stocks the trendy clothes. Zia has also showcased Zia  collections at citizen TV  Kenya. Models walked down the studio runway for Fashion Watch.

She has also started a shoe collection, her future plans are to expand Zia collections in East Africa and beyond. She also encourages the youth to trust their instincts and follow their passion.
